Formation History

MobiFone was established on April 16, 1993, initially named the Mobile Information Company. With its main business being mobile telecommunications services, MobiFone was the first mobile network operator in Vietnam. On December 1, 2014, the company was transformed into the MobiFone Telecommunications Corporation, conducting business in various fields including traditional telecommunications services, VAS, Data, Internet & IPTV/cable TV, enterprise customer products, IT services.

1993

Established the Mobile Information Company with the main business in mobile telecommunications services.
MobiFone became the first mobile network in Vietnam with the slogan "Anytime – Anywhere."
Company Director: Mr. Dinh Van Phuoc.

1994

Established Mobile Information Center Region I in Hanoi.
Established Mobile Information Center Region II in Ho Chi Minh City.
Launched the first postpaid package (the predecessor of MobiGold).

1995

Established Mobile Information Center Region III in Da Nang.
The Mobile Information Company signed a 10-year Business Cooperation Contract (BCC) with Kinnevik/Comvik Group (Sweden).
Expanded coverage in the North, Central, and South regions with over 20 provinces.

1996 - 1999

Established a Design Enterprise under the Corporation (1997).
Honored to receive the Third Class Labor Medal in 1998.
Launched the first prepaid service in Vietnam with the MobiCard package.
Developed 21 new broadcast stations.
Launched international roaming service.
Launched the website: mobifone.vnn.vn.

2000

Total number of broadcast stations: 268 stations.
The first network to offer internal network SMS promotion packages.

2001

Covered 61/61 provinces with a total of 500 broadcast stations.
Expanded messaging services with the MobiFone network.

2002

Awarded the ISO 9001:2000 quality management system certification for network quality.

2003

Honored to receive the Second Class Labor Medal.
Launched a webportal at mobifone.com.vn.

2004

Mobile Information Center III had the largest number of subscribers in Da Nang and was awarded the Third Class Labor Medal by the State.

2005

The Mobile Information Company signed a liquidation of the Business Cooperation Contract (BCC) with Kinnevik/Comvik Group.
The State and the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (now the Ministry of Information and Communications) officially decided on the equitization of the Mobile Information Company.

2006

Established Mobile Information Center Region IV in Can Tho.
Launched the "Long-lasting Connection" program – the pioneering network in offering customer loyalty points.

2007

Owned 14,300 2G broadcast stations.
RockStorm was held for the first time, lasting for 7 consecutive years. All ticket proceeds were donated to charity.

2008

Celebrated the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Mobile Information Company.
Established Mobile Information Center Region V in Hai Phong.
Established the Value-Added Service Center in Hanoi.
Provided the first GPRS package on the Vietnamese market.
Launched the Mobi365 package, voted as the "Best Mobile Package of 2008" by ICT Awards.
April 2008, MobiFone held the number one position in the mobile market share in Vietnam.
Honored to receive the First Class Labor Medal for the period 2003 – 2007.

2009

Established the Billing and Clearing Center in Hanoi.
MobiFone officially provided 3G data services.
Reached the milestone of 30 million subscribers.

2010

Converted to a State-owned single-member limited liability company.

2011

Established Mobile Information Center VI in Dong Nai.
July 2011: Honored to receive the title of Labor Hero awarded by the State.
Provided Data Roaming service for prepaid subscribers – the first network to offer this service.
Owned 21,000 2G broadcast stations, 11,500 3G broadcast stations.

2013

Celebrated the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Mobile Information Company.
Honored to receive the Third Class Independence Medal for the period 2008 – 2012.

2014

July 10: Transferred the State ownership representative rights at the Mobile Information Company from VNPT Group to the Ministry of Information and Communications.
December 1: Received the decision to establish MobiFone Telecommunications Corporation based on the reorganization of the Mobile Information single-member limited liability company.
Owned 15,500 3G stations.

2015

Restructured organizational apparatus: 20 functional departments and 20 affiliated units.
Revenue reached 36,900 billion VND.
"Connecting Value – Awakening Potential" became the slogan of the Corporation.

2016

July 2016: Launched the North-South transmission backbone – tested 4G services.

2018

MobiFone Telecommunications Corporation was transferred to the State Capital Management Committee at Enterprises as the representative owner.
Celebrated the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Mobile Information Company.

2020

December 2020: MobiFone announced the introduction of commercial 5G services.

2025

Transfer the right to represent the owner of State capital at MobiFone Corporation from the Commission for Management of State Capital at Enterprises to the Ministry of Public Security.

Awards in 2024

At the Announcement and Honoring Ceremony of network operators, fixed Internet service providers, and cloud computing in 2024, MobiFone was honored as the "Outstanding Telecommunications Service Provider in Customer Care and Mobile Broadband Promotion Programs."
At the Sao Khue Awards 2024 Ceremony, organized by the Vietnam Software and IT Services Association (VINASA) under the auspices of the Ministry of Information and Communications, MobiFone won 5 awards for new solutions and products: ClipTV multi-platform Internet TV service, MobiGame cloud gaming service, Electronic Party Member Handbook, MobiOn Entertainment Platform.
mobiAgri won the Silver Award at the ASEAN Digital Awards 2024.
Top 50 Innovative and Efficient Businesses in Vietnam 2024 (VIE50).
Top 10 Innovative and Efficient Businesses in Vietnam 2024 in key economic sectors (VIE10).
mobiEdu was in the Top 100 Innovative and Efficient Products and Services of 2024 (POY).
Received a certificate for being an Outstanding Business for Workers in 2024.
